Bathurst Old Bulls and Golden Oldies feature in the news!

Long-standing Golden oldies side, the Bathurst Old Bulls, were featured in the news recently prior to their upcoming game against the Orange Emulators this Sunday.

Take a look at the full feature below that originally appeared on the Western Advocate.

OLD enemies Bathurst and Orange will clash at an over 35s rugby open day at the neutral venue of Carcoar Sportsground next Sunday, June 18.

The Bathurst Old Bulls Rugby Club and the Orange Emulators will take each other on in the slightly modified version of the game that focuses on friendship and fraternity.

“Like a number of other veterans’ games, rugby union is available for the over 35-plus age group – aged between 35 and 65 years – who wish to play and enjoy the game they have loved in their younger years,” Bathurst Old Bulls team manager Allen Spencer said.

“This sport is so strong that many Sydney and Central West rugby clubs have an over 35s team, including Eastwood, Oatley, Manly, Terrey Hills, Penrith, Engadine, Central Coast, Dee Why and the Blue Mountains.”

A Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival is played every two years and the next will be in April 2018 in Christchurch, New Zealand, when over 6000 players are expected to gather and take part.

“The Bathurst Old Bulls and Orange Emulators have nominated a team and will represent the Central West,” Mr Spencer said.

Both sides are still seeking interested players for the 2017/18 season, according to Mr Spencer.

“If you are over 35 and love to strap up and put on a jersey, call us today, or join us at the Carcoar Sportsground, have a run and discover the fun of Golden Oldies rugby,” he said.

Mr Spencer said normal rugby rules apply with some minor alterations, such as unlimited substitution and a shorter playing time.

“Over-vigorous play is discouraged and at all times the emphasis is on playing for fun, friendship, fraternity and family – and, most importantly, never remember the score at the end of the game,” he said.

“Every game is started with a combine team port and ends the same, and we play only once a month so it is not hard on the family.”

The game will be played at Carcoar Sportsground at noon.
