Opening Function Venue
The opening function will take place at The Castle of Good Hope.
This is the oldest building in South Africa and was once a fort but today functions as a showcase of the Cape’s early days. The Castle of Good Hope is a star fort built in the 17th Century in Cape Town. Originally located on the coastline of Table Bay, following land reclamation the fort is now located inland.
The main entrance to the Castle bears many reminders of the nearly one and a half centuries of VOC (Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie) presence at the Cape.
This entrance is a unique example of 17th century Dutch classicism. The bell, cast in 1697 by Claude Fremy in Amsterdam, still hangs in the tower from its original wooden beams.
Lords and Ladies Theme
Here at the Golden Oldies office we know the themes for the functions are just as important as the hockey itself.
In order to give you plenty of time to get your outfit sorted we are announcing the opening function theme now so get your creative minds working: As the opening function is in a Castle what better theme to have for the start of the festival than Lords and Ladies!?
What first comes to mind when you think about South Africa? For us in the Golden Oldies Hockey team it’s definitely SAFARI, so what better theme to close the Festival with!? Think wild animals and safari rangers and let your imagination swing from the tree-tops…a special appearance from Tarzan perhaps!?
