Inaugural NSW over 50’s cricket championships

Great to see a few of our Golden Oldies Cricket Teams were featured yesterday in the Port Macquarie News. Led by Kevin Pike, regular attendees Newcastle’s Lord Taverners were one of the first to register for the 2018 Golden Oldies World Cricket Festival in Christchurch, as part of the Special Christchurch Casino Golden Oldies Sports Celebration.

We wish the Lord Taverners and all the competing teams the best of luck at the inaugural NSW over 50s cricket championships and look forward to hosting them next year in New Zealand!

The Hastings, Macleay and Camden Haven are about to host the inaugural NSW over 50s cricket championships.

Ten teams will compete in a two day carnival played over two days on February 23 and 24.

On day two the two winning teams with the best winning margins from day one will contest the championship trophy.

The remaining eight teams will play off for the other placings and so local cricket lovers will have the chance to see five games on each day.

All the games will be played on turf wickets available in Wauchope, Port Macquarie, Kempsey and Laurieton.

Visiting teams include two each from Port Jackson and Tamworth, the Central Coast, Newcastle’s Lord Taverners and an Armidale based New England team.

The Mid-North Coast will be represented by three teams and each of these are keen to emulate the winning form of the local over 60s team which recently won division three of the NSW over 60s championships.

All teams have players with significant prior representative cricket backgrounds some include current NSW or Australian Veterans cricket players.

Some great cricket is assured but the social side of this great game has not been ignored.

The carnival will get underway with a ‘meet and greet’ function at the Westport Club from 5pm on February 22.

A special guest at this function will be former jockey Allan Robinson.

The carnival is being run by the Hastings Golden Oldies Cricket club  cricket with the help of NSW Veterans cricket and the Westport Club.

Cricket NSW has made available a signed NSW Blues cricket bat which will be raffled during the three days. Tickets can be bought at the meet and greet or at any of the games.
